Miranda Kerr Profile

Miranda May Kerr (born 20 April 1983) is an Australian model, best known as one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels. She was the first Australian addition to the Victoria’s Secret campaign, and was the face of Australian fashion chain Portmans and now David Jones Limited. Kerr rose to prominence within the fashion industry in her mid-teens after winning a 1997 Australian nation-wide model search hosted by Dolly Magazine and Impulse fragrances. Kerr’s career has continued to expand, and as of 2008, she has achieved international fame.

Early life and family

Kerr was born in Sydney but raised in Gunnedah, New South Wales, a small rural town. Her parents are Therese and John Kerr, and she has a younger brother named Matthew. During her childhood, Kerr stated she “raced motorbikes and rode horses on [her] grandmother’s farm” and describes her early life in the Australian countryside as “very grounding … there wasn’t any pretentiousness and no one really cared what you were wearing. You could just be you.” She enjoyed climbing trees, and it allows her to keep “grounded”

Her family moved to Brisbane to allow Kerr and her brother to experience city life. She graduated from All Hallows’ School and planned to study nutrition before pursuing modeling.

Career

Early career

At age thirteen, Kerr entered and won the 1997 annual Dolly Magazine/Impulse Model Competition. She was flown to Sydney a week before her fourteenth birthday to shoot for the magazine. Upon Kerr’s win, local media expressed “concerned outrage” at her young age. The controversy raised concerns about the glorification of young girls within the fashion, beauty, and entertainment industries. Some conservative media outlets claimed her Dolly shoot (including images of fourteen year old Kerr in bathing suits) constituted a form of child pornography. Of the press, Kerr said: “In the media at the time they were trying to cling on to anything remotely to do with paedophilia. Dolly is a magazine for teenage girls, not for old men. And I was fully clothed! Doing a winter shoot! They just made something out of nothing.”

Kerr suffered emotional distress following the death of her high-school boyfriend during her final year of schooling. Eventually overcoming the trauma, Kerr signed to Chadwick Models Melbourne Division after graduating high school. This was followed by Chic Management Sydney Division, and she found modelling success in both her native Australia and in Japan. She received considerable commercial exposure after a series of beach-ware predominantly for Australian surf chain Billabong, in which Kerr modelled for surf brands Tigerlily, Roxy, Billabong Girls and One Teaspoon. This increased her profile in the Australian and Asian markets, after which Kerr relocated to New York.

Established career

Once in New York, Kerr had a multitude of runway appearances, and then signed with Next model agency in early 2004. From there, she was immediately booked for runway and print campaigns for dozens of major labels, including Baby Phat, Lisa Ho, Voodoo Dolls, Levi’s, Bettina Liano, Nicola Finetti, L.A.M.B, Heatherette, Betsey Johnson, Trelise Cooper, Jets, John Richmond, Blumarine Swimwear, Neiman Marcus, Seafolly Swimwear, Anna Molinari, Rock and Republic and Roberto Cavalli.

She appeared frequently in the televised Victoria’s Secret runway parades, was booked for print in magazines such as Elle, Australian Vogue and Harpers Bazaar and was featured in television advertisements for brands such as Portmans, Bonds and Veet.

In 2006, Kerr broke into the United States market when she signed a lucrative cosmetics contract with Maybelline New York. The campaign ran in a series of internationally sold women’s beauty magazines, including Cosmopolitan, CLEO and ELLE, and was eventually featured in Victoria’s Secret catalogues.

Following her success with Maybelline, Kerr became the first Australian model to be offered a contract with Victoria’s Secret and upon her acceptance, the first ever Australian Victoria’s Secret Angel. She became a featured model on the company’s internationally-accessed website, joining the stable of prestige models already signed to the lingerie giant including Gisele Bündchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolína Kurková, Adriana Lima, Selita Ebanks, and Heidi Klum. Kerr’s increasing popularity as one of the globally recognized Angels led for Kerr to be featured in the Victoria’s Secret 2006 and 2007 televised runway shows, which aired on four continents.

As of 2007, Kerr has signed as the face of Californian fashion retailer Arden B. After debuting in their Spring and Summer ad campaigns, Kerr returned for their Fall 2007 campaign, shot by fashion photographer Diego Uchitel. She has also become the new face of Clinique Happy, and signed a lucrative six-figure deal to be the new face of Australian department store David Jones, replacing model Megan Gale. In 2008, earning at an estimated total of $3.5 million in the past 12 months, Forbes placed Kerr tenth in the list of the world’s top-earning models.

Filmography

Kerr (along with several other Victoria’s Secret and Next agency models) was featured in a music video for American hip-hop stars Kanye West and Pharrell Williams’ single Number One. Kerr was also featured in a 2006 music video for then boyfriend Jay G Lyon’s band Tamarama’s independently released single Everything To Me.

Following her modeling success with Victoria’s Secret, Kerr made a small guest appearance in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother alongside fellow Angels Adriana Lima, Marisa Miller, Heidi Klum and Selita Ebanks.

Other

As reported in 2007, Kerr is writing an inspirational self-esteem self-help book called Treasure Yourself aimed at the female teenage demographic. Kerr says, “Basically, it’s a whole lot of information that I’ve found, that has helped me. If I can help one girl by doing this then I’ve completed my purpose.”

Public image

Reception

Kerr is dubbed “the next MacPherson” and generates a high volume of interest in both the Australasian, European and American markets. Kerr’s model trademark is her dimples. Celebrity photographer Russell James said of Kerr, “The US has fallen in love with her. We love her because she has the most incredible girl-next-door look and she’s also insanely beautiful. It means women are not intimidated by her looks and guys think they might be able to talk to her. It’s a fantastic combination … people want to be around her; she’s fun on a shoot … and she’s not stupid, which can be a very annoying trait among some models.” Model agent Ursula Hufnagl described Kerr as “the perfect endorsement”, citing her ability to “truly sell a product.”

Kerr’s charitable work includes Wildlife Warriors Worldwide and Children International.

Personal life

In 2003, Kerr began dating finance broker Adrian Camilleri. Following an Australian Securities and Investments Commission investigation, Camilleri was found guilty on five counts of fraudulent behaviour spanning between February 2003 to February 2004. Kerr subsequently dissolved the relationship. 2007 reports claim Kerr suffered financially “after taking her boyfriend’s financial advice” but chose not to take legal action.

Kerr practices Nichiren Buddhism — a Japanese branch of the Buddhist religion — and believes “we have a responsibility to bring peace and harmony to our lives and the world.” As part of her Nichiren beliefs, Kerr reportedly chants every morning and night for 20 minutes, practices yoga, meditates and reads widely on spirituality. In early 2008, Kerr began dating actor and Buddhist Orlando Bloom.

According to a Victoria’s Secret profile on Kerr, posted on the CBS YouTube page, Kerr’s described her take on life as “enjoying wherever it is [I am] and trying to be in the moment as much as possible.

Miranda Kerr on the 3rd August, 2008, shared on Australian chat show Rove Live that one of her secrets was that her belly button was able to be both an “innie” and an “outie” before going on to revealing on live national television.

Gisele Bündchen Profile

Family and early life

Gisele Bündchen was born in the Brazilian town of Três de Maio and grew up in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul, to Vânia Nonnenmacher, a bank clerk pensioner, and Valdir Bündchen, a university teacher and writer. She has five sisters — Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela and her fraternal twin Patrícia, Gisele’s junior by five minutes. Bündchen was raised as a Roman Catholic, speaks Portuguese as her native language and English as a second language.

She is from South Brazil, a region whose population is largely composed of Brazilians of German descent. Bündchen is of distant German ancestry from both sides of her family: her great-great-grandparents immigrated to Brazil from Germany. In regards to her ethnic background, Bündchen was quoted:
“ I was born in Horizontina, a town in the backcountry of (Brazilian) state Rio Grande do Sul. The town was once mainly colonized by Germans. In the school which I attended, learning German was actually obligatory from third grade on. But being out of touch with the language for such a long time, I unfortunately forgot it. (…) I belong to the sixth generation of my family in Brazil. ”

Modeling career

Originally, Bündchen wanted to be a professional volleyball player and considered playing for the Brazilian team, Sogipa. While in school, Bündchen was so thin that her friends used to call her “Olívia Palito” (Portuguese for Olive Oyl, Popeye’s skinny girlfriend), and “Saracura” (a type of Brazilian shorebird).

In 1993, a then-13-year-old Bündchen joined a modeling course with her sisters Patrícia and Gabriela at her mother’s insistence. The following year, Bündchen went to São Paulo in a school excursion to give them an opportunity to walk in a big city. In a shopping mall, Bündchen was discovered by a modeling agency. She was subsequently selected for a national contest, Elite Look of the Year, in which she placed second — Claudia Menezes, from Bahia, took first place. Bündchen placed fourth in the world contest, held in Ibiza, Spain. In 1996, Bündchen moved to New York City to begin her modeling career, debuting at Fashion Week.

Her debut on the cover of the July 1999 issue of Vogue magazine, and the accompanying editorial entitled, “The Return of the Sexy Model” is widely viewed as marking the end of the fashion’s “heroin chic” era. She graced the cover again in November and December of that year. She won the VH1/Vogue Model of the Year for 1999, and a January 2000 cover gave her the rare honor of three consecutive Vogue covers.[8] In 2000, she was the fourth model in history to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, when she was named “the most beautiful girl in the world”. Bündchen has been on the covers of many top fashion magazines including W, Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, Allure, international editions of Vogue, as well as style and lifestyle publications such as i-D, The Face, Arena, Citizen K, Flair, GQ, Esquire and Marie Claire. She has also been featured in the Pirelli calendar 2001 and 2006 as well as in broader market publications such as Time, Vanity Fair, Forbes, Newsweek, Veja, totaling more than 500 magazine covers throughout the world.

Bündchen consistently works with acclaimed photographers such as Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Nick Knight, Mert and Marcus, Rankin, Annie Leibovitz, Karl Lagerfeld, Peter Lindbergh, David LaChapelle, Mario Sorrenti and Patrick Demarchelier, among others, and renowned directors such as Jean Baptiste Mondino and Bruno Aveillan.

Claudia Schiffer said: “Supermodels, like we once were, don’t exist any more.” and reckoned that Gisele Bündchen was the only one close to earning the supermodel title.

Bundchen is signed to 2pm Model Management in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Endorsements and earnings

Since her debut, Bündchen has been the face of a variety of advertising campaigns including several seasons of Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Mervyn’s, Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni, Versace, Céline, Givenchy, Bvlgari, Lanvin, Guerlain, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Earl Jean, Zara, Chloé, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, and Victoria’s Secret. She has appeared in advertisements for Nivea lotion and is the face of several Brazilian brands including Vivo, Multiplan (Shopping Malls), Colcci, Credicard (Citibank), and Volkswagen do Brasil. After C&A Brazil hired Bündchen as a spokesmodel and began airing television commercials, sales increased by 30%.

In May 2006, Bündchen signed another multi-million dollar deal, this time with American giant Apple Computer. She starred in an advertising campaign to promote the new Macintosh line through the Get a Mac advertisements. Also in 2006, Bündchen became the new face of Swiss luxury watchmaker, Ebel.[13]

She has her own line of sandals with footwear company Grendene called Ipanema Gisele Bündchen. Forbes puts her 53rd on their list of the most powerful celebrities of 2007 due to the success of her shoe line. Custom Ipanema flip-flops sell for as much as $230 a pair. She is also the owner of a hotel in the south of Brazil, the Palladium Executive.

On May 1, 2007, it was announced that Bündchen had ended her contract with Victoria’s Secret. The New York Post’s Page Six reported that Bündchen had left Victoria’s Secret because she just wanted to move on, not because she didn’t get paid enough.

In July 2007, having earned an estimated total of $33 million in the past 12 months, Forbes magazine named her the world’s top-earning model in the list of the World’s 15 Top-Earning Supermodels.

Gisele as one of the reasons to love New York

On December 2005 issue, the New York magazine elected and publicized a list of 123 reasons to love New York City, and the reason of number 43 announced on occasion was because Gisele Bündchen lives there.

Gisele Bündchen Stock Index

An American economist named Fred Fuld developed a stock index to measure the profit performance improvement of companies represented by Bündchen compared to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. According to Fuld, the Gisele Bündchen Stock Index was up 15% during the interval of time between May and July 2007, substantially surpassing the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which was up just 8.2%.
Tribute to Gisele (song)

A Brazilian singer and songwriter named Gabriel Guerra, along with Pedro Cezar, another musician, wrote as homage the song Tributo a Gisele (Tribute to Gisele in English), which is currently the theme of the supermodel’s official website. In January 2008 she met Gabriel Guerra at Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio de Janeiro where she was a guest at the time.

Her image as inspiration for aesthetic plastic surgeries

A result of research was publicized at February 2008 by The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) to reveal how world celebrity images, that overwhelm popular media, influence people’s choices and decisions to undergo plastic surgeries. The question asked was: What influences do celebrities have on the decisions patients make? The survey was sent to over 20,000 plastic surgeons in 84 countries.

Gisele Bündchen, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Pamela Anderson, Sophia Loren, Brad Pitt and George Clooney were the most mentioned. Gisele won the abdomen and hair categories and was second place in the breasts category.

Nude photography auctioned for US$193,000 (£96,000)

On April 11, 2008, a black-and-white photo of Bündchen, shot by Irving Penn, was auctioned for USD 193,000 (£96,000). The picture was one of dozens from the collection of Gert Elfering that were sold at Christie’s International in New York. In all, the auction tallied US$ 4.27 million and included pictures of Brigitte Bardot, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Carla Bruni. Bündchen’s picture reached the highest price in comparison with the others. Bardot was the second with USD 181,000 (£90,000).

Social work

Bündchen lends her support and image for a number of charities and humanitarian causes, such as the I am African campaign, painting her face for protesting against the lack of attention about the HIV African victims and also was, without payment, the face of American Express Red Card, an initiative launched by U2 front man Bono and Bobby Shriver to send a money percentage of financial transactions with this credit card for HIV African victims.

She designed a limited necklace’s edition for Harper’s Bazaar, crafted by jewelers Gumuchian Fils and sold to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, specializing in cancer treatment. She served as the spokesperson and campaign model for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.

Bündchen already gave a São Paulo Fashion Week’s payment check for Zero Hunger (in Portuguese: Fome Zero), a Brazilian government program introduced by the Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2003, and nowadays, her main social activism is to protect the Amazon Rainforest water sources, donating for this cause a percentage of profits reached with her line of sandals named Ipanema Gisele Bündchen for helping projects like Nascentes do Brasil, ISA, Y Ikatu Xingu and De Olho nos Mananciais.

Personal relationships

Bündchen has dated Leonardo DiCaprio and Kelly Slater. She is currently dating New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Since they started their relationship there are rumors that she is pregnant with his baby. The magazine In Touch Weekly reported on May 4 that Brady wants to propose to Gisele.

Controversies

PETA “anti-fur” target

In 2002, during the taping of the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Bündchen was the target of a protest made by four members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals because she was signed to be the new face of Blackglama, a trademark of a fur farming cooperative. When Bündchen was on stage, four women jumped onto the runway holding posters that read “Gisele: Fur Scum” and included the logo for PETA. Bündchen tried to ignore them while several security guards detained the protesters. Bündchen told CNN the protest was “unwarranted” as the fashion show only featured faux fur. After the incident, the producers decided to stop the music and redid Bündchen’s segment once the protesters were removed.

“I’m the biggest animal lover in the world!!” she said backstage after the show. “I was just doing my job as a model. I don’t even wear fur. They just want attention.” Despite her comments that PETA had acted ‘inappropriately’ Bündchen later announced that “it was a bad decision on my part,” explaining that she no longer “wears any fur”. But she appeared on the October 2005 China Vogue Cover wearing fox.

Reaction to papal statement on condom use

Although raised as a Roman Catholic,[38] Bündchen did not agree with statements regarding condom use made by Pope Benedict XVI during his official visit to Brazil. Bündchen was quoted with saying, “To prohibit condoms is ridiculous, just think of all the diseases transmitted without them,” and asking, “How is it possible to not want people to use condoms and also not have abortions? It’s impossible, I’m sorry.”

The euro preference rumour

When Bündchen signed a contract in August 2007 to represent Pantene hair products in Brazil for Procter & Gamble, it was reported that the model demanded payment in euros, according to Veja, the biggest weekly Brazilian magazine. She was also rumoured by Veja to be paid in euros for the last deal reached with the Italian brand Dolce & Gabbana to promote the fragrance The One. The American dollar’s devaluation in international markets was the trigger for the rumour and Bündchen was written about in many financial publications, a rarity for someone in the fashion world.

Her sister and manager Patrícia Bündchen denied these contract details on her official web site after much criticism.

The cover of the April 2008 Vogue, shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, was the first time a black man had graced the cover[citation needed]. Criticism was immediate from many quarters for what was perceived as a racist depiction of LeBron James, putting the basketball superstar and the much smaller model in a pose reminiscent of King Kong carrying off Fay Wray.

Claudia Schiffer Profile

Claudia Schiffer (born August 25, 1970) is a German supermodel and actress, who reached the height of her popularity during the 1990s, due to her close resemblance to Brigitte Bardot. Schiffer is one of the world’s most successful supermodels, having appeared on over 500 magazine covers. Forbes estimated Schiffer to be worth £38 million in 2002.

Background

Claudia Schiffer was born in Rheinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, which is a small town 15 km northeast of Duisburg. She is the daughter of Gudrun and Heinze Schiffer, a lawyer. She has two brothers, Stefan and Andreas, and one sister, Ann Carolin.

Schiffer has said that she was popular in high school, but felt socially overshadowed by the other girls in her class.[5] She has revealed that because she was so tall, she became very shy and did not want to be noticed. She was also subjected to jealousy by others as she came from a wealthy family that was well-known locally. Schiffer became fluent in French and English.

Schiffer originally wanted to become a lawyer and work in her father’s law firm.[1] She later dropped these aspirations when in October 1987 at seventeen she was spotted in a nightclub in Düsseldorf by Michel Levaton, the boss of Metropolitan Model Agency who signed her up to become a model.

[edit] Modeling and fashion

She completed her education and then began to work as a model. She flew out to Paris for a trial photo shoot and soon after she appeared in the cover of French ELLE after being well received in Paris. After several other magazine appearances she quickly achieved supermodel status when she was selected by Karl Lagerfeld to become the new face of Chanel. Schiffer went on to become a world-famous supermodel, becoming instantly recognizable with her blue eyes, blond hair and tall figure, now standing at 5ft 11.

In the early 1990s she starred in highly publicised Guess? jeans adverts in North America which created essential publicity for Schiffer. Paul Marciano said in E! Forbes Top 15 Supermodel Beauties Who Made Bank, “Guess name became really much more known around the world because [of] Claudia”. Soon after appearing in the campaigns, her name was launched worldwide, appearing on five magazine covers in the United States and seven covers around Europe. Her modelling career continued to grow. Schiffer joined Thomas Zeumer’s prestigious Metropolitan Models and was contracted to model for Revlon. She also became deeply involved in modelling for several catalogues and modelled on high profile catwalk shows. Schiffer has done catwalk modelling for Versace, Jil Sander, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and Valentino. Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, the New York Times and People all saw Schiffer as the first model to make their covers. She has also appeared many times on covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and Time.

Schiffer has also been the face of Mango, a chain of Spanish clothes stores[9] and Accessorize, where she had her ears pierced especially for her Autumn/Winter 2006 Accessorize advertising campaign in 2006. Schiffer still holds a contract with L’Oreal and Ebel watches, and her billboard picture for Kenar has also hung over millions of tourists at Time Square. Since 1990, she has created a swimsuit calendar each year which she stars in and designs herself.

Schiffer later secured contracts with Pepsi appearing in advertisements promoting the brand, and has also danced with a cartoon version of Mickey Mouse in advertisements promoting Fanta for an estimated $2 million. From her appearances in a 1998 Citroën advertisement, she earned a reputed £3 million. She appeared nude in the advert, but as she was posed behind the car, only her feet and from her shoulders up were visible, and she did not know how to drive at the time. Karl Lagerfeld recently filmed her for a Dom Perignon campaign, some ten years after her first appearances in Chanel adverts.

She is signed to several agencies, including 1/One Management in New York City and her mother agency ‘Model Management’ in Hamburg.

Beyond modeling

Schiffer has appeared in a number of films and music videos. Her first appearance in film was in the children’s movie Richie Rich in 1994 and then starred opposite Dennis Hopper and Matthew Modine in Blackout. She went on to appear in Friends & Lovers and Black and White in 1999, In Pursuit and Life Without Dick in 2001, and then Love Actually in a semi-cameo role. Schiffer has made several other cameo appearances in film which include, Ben Stiller’s Zoolander in 2001.

Schiffer has appeared on several talk shows and sitcoms, such as Larry King Live, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Dharma & Greg and Arrested Development. She was also in boyband Westlife’s music video for “Uptown Girl”, and made a cameo in Bon Jovi’s video for “Say it isn’t so”.

She has also released four exercise videos, entitled Claudia Schiffer’s Perfectly Fit, which were successful and reached the bestsellers list. Schiffer has hosted the French Fashion Awards and the World Music Awards in Monaco.

With fellow supermodels Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, and Elle Macpherson, Schiffer was joint owner of a chain of fashionable restaurants called the Fashion Café in 1995. Schiffer remains a prominent figure in German society and helped present and carry the trophy with Pelé during opening ceremonies at the 2006 World Cup. She also presented Prince William with a polo trophy in 2002.

When talking about the model profession at present, she said: “Supermodels, like we once were, don’t exist any more.” She has said that Gisele Bündchen is the only person who comes close to earning the supermodel title.

Personal life

Schiffer was dating magician David Copperfield for about five years from 1994 until 1999. They first met in 1993 at one of Copperfield’s stage shows, where he invited her on stage to take part in his ‘Flying’ illusion, and he then subsequently sawed her in half during a joint appearance on German television. Following the end of her relation to Copperfield, she met and had a relationship with Tim Jefferies.

On 25 May 2002, she married the film producer Matthew Vaughn. Instead of an engagement ring, Vaughn bought her a tortoise. On her wedding day, many journalists and 200 onlookers gathered to see her in her wedding dress. She was married in St. George’s church in the village of Shimpling. The wedding reception was held at Schiffer’s Elizabethan mansion.

Schiffer and Vaughn have two children: son Caspar Matthew, (born 30 January 2003) and daughter Clementine de Vere Drummond, (born 11 November 2004). They all now live in London. During spare time, Schiffer enjoys horse riding, painting, playing tennis and skiing.

Schiffer had two significant problems with harassment in the past. In 2002, an Italian kitchen porter, named Agostino Pomata, was arrested after making nine visits to Schiffer’s £5 million Suffolk mansion near Bury St Edmunds, attempting to see her. Charges against Agostino Pomata were dropped however, as he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. He had believed that the Pope had told him to marry Schiffer. Then later in 2004, Louis Brisette a Canadian man, was accused of harassing Schiffer, again at her mansion in Suffolk. He reportedly called at her mansion three times in total in the hope of seeing Schiffer. He also repeatedly left letters at her home.

Veronica Varekova Profile

Originally from Olomouc, at age 19 she moved to New York City, United States. She moved to Europe after it became clear that she would be more successful there. She is fluent in three languages and has degrees in Psychology and Education. She married hockey star, Petr Nedved, in July 2004, but they separated in the summer of 2006.

Modeling work

Va?eková has appeared in the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated a total of eight times: 1999-2002 and 2004-2007. She appeared on the cover in 2004. In addition to SI, Veronika was regularly featured in Victoria’s Secret but decided not to renew her contract in 2004. She became the face of NIVEA at that time. Other contracts include Guess?, Chanel and Pantene. She was a cover girl for Marie Claire, Harpers & Queen and Cosmopolitan. Her most recent contract (2003 – 2007) has been with Newport News.

In the news

In May 2006 Va?eková claimed that Maxim magazine unlawfully used a photograph of her scantily clad — in stockings, high heels and naked from the waist up — on the cover of its June issue. The photo was taken for a British GQ magazine feature on Victoria’s Secret last year. Afterward, the photo agency Corbis sold the photos to Maxim. Va?eková says she was never told of the sale, nor was she asked for her permission to do so.

“They put me on the cover without my permission,” the model told reporters. “They have no right to do it.”

Va?eková says the photos were fitting for a feature on Victoria’s Secret, but “for Maxim, it looks — to my eyes — super, super vulgar.”

Regardless, Maxim placed Varekova at #32 on its 2006 Hot 100 List.
